New Merch’ Monday: Jennifer Crinkle Scarf

"Air Force Blue"

"Air Force Blue"

I’m all about staples.  Not, you know, paper-wise, but closet.  I have some clothing items that I just wear over and over and over.  With its easily-coordinated colors, easy shape, and slight texture, this Jennifer Crinkle Scarf is destined to become an everyday wardrobe staple.

This scarf falls exactly as I want my scarves to, making it so tempting to just throw on with any outfit.  The color spectrum alone (taupe grey, Air Force blue, and fern green) is fantastic, and it’s got a perfect medium weight.

And yes, I just spent at least fifteen minutes figuring out the exact names for the colors.  I’m a people-pleaser.

"Taupe Grey"

"Taupe Grey"

Of course, I would get the grey.  Just in case I need more grey in my closets.  But the subdued blue and green accent any skin tone/eye color combo, so you with the brunette hair and brown eyes: get the green one.  And you, with the blonde hair and blue eyes: get the blue one.  And the redhead?  Wear whatever you want, girlfriend.  You’re gonna look stellah in anything.

See how I did that?  Gingers stick together.

I can easily see the Jennifer becoming anyone’s favorite scarf, SO YOU SHOULD GO GET ONE.  Sorry.  I get excited about awesome stuff.

New Merch’ Monday: Amy Nautical Square Scarf

Who can resist a touch of elegance? Not me, that’s a fact. This is undoubtedly why my eyes, heart and wallet gravitated immediately toward the Amy Nautical Square Scarf, a silk-blend beauty who’s versatility dominates that of typical neckwear.

Reminiscent of a country club favorite, the Amy Nautical Square Scarf can be worn knotted around loosely around neck to add a special touch to a black or white fitted tee or turtleneck. See left.

Or, if you’re brave, call upon the style of the lovely Jackie O and don the Amy as a head scarf/hair-protector on a crazy weather day.

Also, in the hair-aid vein, wear the Amy rolled into a thin strip and tied around the head as a headband. Just make a double knot with the scarf’s ends at the back of the head to secure, and you’re good to go.

Perhaps my favorite way to wear this one, would be tied to the handle of a color-coordinating handbag. You’d be hard-pressed to find an easier way to push an outfit fashion foward. See what I mean, here and here.

All in all, if you’re looking for some serious ROI in the fashion department, you’ve found it, as the Amy is on sale for…wait for it…$16.95. Insanity, I know.

How would you wear it?

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

I’m always amazed by the Holidays’ sneakiness. You’re just minding your own business, livin’ life and what not, and then BAM! You can’t walk without tripping over a candy cane. I do love presents and family-time, so not complaining — just musing. As usual. Moving on…

20-10. Jill at College Candy provides a lovely rundown of New Years worthy ensembles. I can relate far to well to her “five too many butterfly clips” and “platform gym shoes” nostalgia, by the way.

2 for 1. Sarah at Looking Sharp has a great idea for an eco-friendly wrapping paper stand-in. Grab our favorites here. Or even better, use a scarf. Just place the (smallish) present in the scarf’s center, bring up the ends of the scarf to form a pouch and tie them into a knot or bow. Ta Da!

There’s Something in Your Hair. As you’ve probably guessed, we’re all about accessories. However, when it come to hats I tend to cowardly receed into a corner. I just see so many more misses than hits in regard to this elusive fashion item, and frankly I’m scared. Luckily Kristen at Cool Mama Style provides some guidance and hope for us millineriphobics.

Work it Out. Rachel at The Working Wardrobe provides a very interesting look into a designer’s production of custom clothing pieces for a Chicago lawyer.

Cathartically Cheap. Are you a crafter? I love getting elbow deep in glue guns and pom poms. (My most recent project) I’m going through a studding phase currently and am thus particularly enthused about the embellished knee socks project in this rather wonderful collection of Holiday DIY projects.

For all the Xmas celebrators, last shopping weekend before the big day. Crazy, right?

P.S.: It’s not too late to order up some scarf goodness for the loved (or not so loved) ones – in fact, we’ll give you free Priority shipping until Monday, so it’ll get there on time fo sho!

Wednesday Q&A: Kristen of Cool Mama Style

Though I currently fear for the life of any child left solely to my devices, I do someday plan to venture down the path of momhood. And when I do, I hope to be just like Kristen. She and her partner, Michelle, co-write Cool Mama Style, a savvy blog that moves trend and deal reports to cool moms everywhere. These ladies know their stuff and were kind enough to impart  some accessories-centric knowledge on us. Read on for Kristen’s take on the neckwear we know and love.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and how you fell into the world of fashion/shopping blogging.

A: I’ve been a fashion junkie for most of my life…but have grown increasingly fashion forward after becoming a mom! I didn’t want to fall victim to sweatpants, mom jeans or banana clips (an ode to the 80s…I know)! Being a mom does not have to cramp your style! I love to celebrate my own style and am creative with it–it’s fun for me :) Our fashion blog, Coolmamastyle.com, was born from a mutual love of fashion between Michelle and I and has become our favorite hobby! Now we can validate our shopping obsession!

Q: What is your personal scarf style?

A: I personally love versatile, all-weather scarves best–but I wear all types! My favorite look is wearing scarves with tanks, T’s, and lately I’m loving a scarf paired with a tank, long cardigan and skinny jeans. Since I live in Colorado, a warm cuddly scarf is always nice on those chilly days.

Q: What’s your favorite way to wear a scarf?

A: I wear scarves one of two ways: 1. looped once or twice around my neck with the long ends hanging or 2. the way I learned in Italy: match up the ends, make a loop at the other end and thread the two ends through the loop.

Q: What advice would you give someone struggling with which scarf to choose?

A: Go for an all-weather scarf, such as the Pashmina shawl on Affordable Scarves. I personally love the dark purple or orange to add a pop of color, paired with a neutral top or coat. On the other end of the color palette, neutral scarves work best with a colored top or coat.

Q: Tell us about your blog. What do you hope to accomplish with it?

A: We hope to inspire moms to enjoy fashion, without breaking the bank. It’s a tough job being a mom and is easy to neglect yourself when you devote so much time to your kids. Check out coolmamastyle.com for up-to-date fashion tips, bargains and more.

Q: Is there anything else you’re dying to share?

A: Have fun with scarves! I truly love them. They are a versatile accessory that brighten up an outfit, they’re fashion forward, and (as I just learned on an airplane) double as a blanket if you are traveling!

Holiday Gift Guide: Grandpa

Grandfathers are so sweet.  And if you’re in the market for gifts for your grandfather, I’m going to assume you agree with me.  Is it necessary for me to scrunch my shoulders up and say, “Gwampaw” whenever I talk about sweet old men?

No.  But I can’t help it, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

When it comes to what to buy Gramps, however, you may think it’s easier to just continue to consider your own adorableness and sweet demeanor to be gift enough.  Well not this year, my friend.  We have some pretty thoughtful ideas with which you can surprise your favorite cardigan’d story-teller:

  1. Classic Pocket Watch, $16.96, InexpensiveWatches.com
  2. 12 Pair of Men’s Bold Assorted Diabetic Crew Socks, $26.96, Socks4Life.com
  3. The Anderson, $14.41, ReadingGlassesShopper.com
  4. Umo Lorenzo Handkerchief Set, $13.5, ABCNeckties.com
  5. OveRxCast Medium Polarized Sunglasses #1299, $16.96, SunglassWarehouse.com
