Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

‘Allo Chap!

That means “hello” in British. Why greet you in this native tongue? Because the well-heeled style crowd has turned it’s attention to London Fashion Week, of course. I’ve spent many a late night perusing the collections and I was a bit alarmed in coming across that of Blumarine.

We can only hope that no zebra’s were in harmed in the making of those garments. I can assure you, grabbing a look-a-like from a store I know would be sure-fire way to steer clear of this worry.

Moving on.

Discovery. Ever wonder how those lithe ladies prancing down the runway got their start? Night Watch snagged an exclusive interview with 16-year-old model, Carla Zapffe, which might help clarify this mystique.

Bun in Oven. One of the less terrifying — or perhaps more terrifying depending upon one’s pain tolerance — conundrums regarding pregnancy is deciphering how to adjust one’s dressing. Kristen of Idiosyncratic Style provides an extensive “guide to non-matronly maternity style” this week. How did she do, moms?

I’ll take that. I’m mildly obsessed with Ebay and I love the one-of-a-kind quality that comes with most Ebay purchases. (I’m very selfish, you see.) I was thus thrilled to find Diana’s “10 tips for shopping on Ebay.” Number seven is particularly astute, IMHO, because aside from being selfish, I’m also severly competitive. And many-a-time, this drive to win has costed me plenty o’ pretty pennies.

And last but not least, I want to share some eye candy from my trip to NYC last week for the Fashion Blogger community Evolving Influence event. We donated scarves for the event’s attendee gift bags and the lovely Julia of Fashion Pulse Daily was kind enough to pass along these circle scarf-liscous pre-party pics. See my own party pics here.

New Merch’ Monday: Aloha Cotton Scarf

brown and pink scarf

brown.pink. tan.yellow.white

As we transition from winter to Spring (‘kay, Mother Nature?  It’s time for sunshine), one must consider the weather in one’s shopping excursions.

Being a lover of all things oversized, I am drawn to the Aloha Cotton Scarf like a cat to a laser pointer: full-on pounce mode.

The print is really unique, as it’s slightly tribal and leaflike, yet doesn’t necessarily give an ethnic vibe.  Color-wise, both schemes provide a cool way to incorporate pink and purple without looking like you’re wearing…pink and purple.

black and purple scarf

black.purple. teal.yellow.white

Not that those colors are undesirable; I just know I, personally, never wear them, because I feel too girly.  The Aloha keeps the girl factor in check, mixing pink with brown, yellow, and tan, and purple with black, yellow, and teal.  Awesome!

When it comes to scarves, for me, Size. Matters.  Big time.  And by “big time,” I mean I need my scarves to be big.  The Aloha is aptly named, not only because of its print, but because it can double as a sarong.

I’m not exaggerating.  Iz a beeg one.

This scarf around your neck adds instant chic to an outfit, simply by its look of complexity.  There is no way to look like you’re timidly testing out a style when you’ve got this guy on; the Aloha is a total queen: out and proud.

So, for now, layer this scarf on for warmth, but, come warmer temperatures, you will be completely in love with its lightweight cotton feel.  Multi-functional and made to last more through the changing seasons; I wish I could say the same about my last boyfriend.

What?

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Just yesterday marking the final day of New York Fashion Week, there was plenty of circulating couture and sidetracking slideshows.  But there was one thing that forced me to stop and read the entire article was this awfully awesome headline.

if anything has "zow," it's this outfit.

kablaweee

Gotta love Mizrahi.  Bridget and I decided we could listen to him talk forever.

Continuing on the NYFW track, there are always bits and pieces that stick with you.  Sometimes, it’s just one completely divine piece of an ensemble, other times, it is an entire collection.

I didn’t delve too far into the shows, but one that did slap me across the face with enslavement need obsession um. yearning was Alexander Wang’s.  It is nice to see new silhouettes without being so no-one-understands-true-fashion, look-at-my-shapeless-awkward-layering.

It’s been said that now, more than ever, is the best time to dress as uniquely as you want (Tavi), and plenty of designers have been taking that morsel…and sprinting.

Some, it appears, don’t even want men to look like, you know, humans anymore.  I’m not sure how sportswear could go so, so wrong, but tiny, shrunken-suit-wearing Thom Brown can show you.

It’s interesting, to me, the amount of celebrities braving the weather to attend fashion week, when their “style” is actually conjured by their…stylists.  Turns out, it can be quite the profitable activity, attending fashion shows, IF, that is, the designer wants you to be seen there.

Speaking of being seen, the exact formula for being spotted and snapped by The Sartorialist HAS BEEN CALCULATED.

So, GO.  ”Put on a scarf” and get phlogged!

Celeb Style: Get Miley Cyrus’s Scarf Style

miley-cyrus-starbucks-sweet-08

What a fashion find, Ms. Miley!

The gorgeous teal leopard print around her neck strongly resembles our luxury Leopard Print Wrap.  Available in three shades (Black, Pink, and Brown), the Leopard Print Wrap can be worn for both warmth and style purposes, making it a double threat. Not to mention, the sheer smooth material (100% polyester) of this scarf makes its wearer feel like a true Hollywood starlet.

That being said–Move over Miles, an Affordable Scarf-wearer may trump your spotlight!tn_images--W--FSN-543Black---jpg_w233_h350

Wednesday Guest Post: Birdie in Vegas!

Happy Wednesday, everybody! As promised, Birdie from Bonne Vie is back to tell us about her adventures in Vegas with the Jessica Circle Scarf. Enjoy!

Every February, my fiancé and I make a trip to Vegas to meet with friends, and to get away from the Pacific Northwest rain. Usually the respite is well needed since it’s generally rainy and around 50F here in Seattle. It’s always a challenge to know what to pack for Vegas since the weather is so drastically different – sunny and 65 during the day, and often cold in the evening. When you’re inside, the temperature is often much cooler than it is outside; bringing a scarf, wrap, or sweater a necessity.

Last year, I wrote about how I packed for Vegas and it was all about finding THE right bag to carry anything I’d need for the day. This year, it will be all about discovering a stylish way to fight the changes in climate, from the hotel to the sunny streets of Sin City, to the overly chilled interiors, to the sometimes chilly Vegas nights. Also, you do have to be prepared for rain, which we discovered this year!

It rained all weekend - a view from our hotel room

It rained all weekend - a view from our hotel room

Since loop or circle scarves are such a hit this year (i.e. – the ever-popular necklush look, and Affordable Scarves’ Jessica Circle scarf), I decided it’d be fun to pair one with my Vegas outfits. I wanted something that would go with everything I packed – even walking through the buildings, the smoky casino smell clings to everything you wear. To minimize the threat of bringing it back to the hotel room, I minimize what I take with me.

The circle scarf is much more versatile than you first think – at first it seems like there’s really only one good way to wear it, but I had a couple tricks for expanding its wearability. It can be wrapped around your shoulders like a stole; worn like a scarf, or like a flapper’s necklace – with one loop longer than the other; or pulled over your head at the threat of a sprinkle. I’m interested in finding new ways to wear the scarf, since it seems like such a versatile design – this is what I’ve come up with so far.

The most basic way I wear my circle scarf is looped – it provides a very sleek image.

You can toss it up over your head at the first threat of rain like so:

If you’re out for a little fancier occasion, you can wear it like a wrap (and the hood idea works well here, too!)

My favorite look (which I wore Saturday for a nice dinner out) is currently the stole – this is a great look when you want something thrown over your shoulders, but you don’t want something that will cover up the rest of your outfit.

For this look, I looped it around my neck twice, and pulled one side down over each shoulder.

Of course the most effortless way to wear it is still long, with a blazer or short trench thrown over the top.

The scarf was a great weight for inside buildings on the strip and it was the perfect weight for the damp, cold desert nights. It’s been a great piece for Seattle as well – where the temperatures are down in the 50′s and it could be sunny one minute and pouring the next. The Jessica Circle scarf has been the perfect addition to my wardrobe this winter, and I’m sure it’ll carry over into spring and summer as well.

New Merch Monday: Clara Cotton Scarf

I love the soft vintage look of the Clara Cotton Scarf, and with spring just around the corner–this scarf is the perfect accessory to a variety of fresh looks.  Decked in an entourage of lightly-colored flowers and made with 100% cotton, this scarf is extremely comfortable, with a very elegant and sophisticated edge to it–especially in the white and black shades!  Light fringe dangles off the bottom edges of the scarf, completing the unique look and giving it a softer appearance.
tn_images--W--CO-950Pink---jpg_w233_h350I recommend pairing the Clara Cotton Scarf with your favorite pair of old jeans (Pull them out of the back of your closet…no matter what shape they’re in!) and a plain white or soft grey tee.  This look will allow you to pull off the whole urban-feminine-chic vibe this scarf’s got going on.  Oh, but…don’t forget wavy hair all the way–definitely a must.

Let’s get serious though: The Clara Cotton Scarf looks like some super expensive chic boutique offering that costs about a million dollars more than you would ever spend on a scarf (OK–I may be exaggerating a bit), but you know exactly what I’m talking about.  Am I right?  Come on people, we’re in a recession for crying out loud.  It’s all about how far the cash flow will stretch, and blowing your weekly earnings on a scarf  is just not realistic anymore.

Well–what if I told you the Clara Cotton Scarf could be yours for just $15.26? Would that change things around a bit for any of you? I’m extremely happy to break the good news to you–that it can.  That’s the beauty of our discounted designer looks ladies and gents’!

With a scarf like this, everyone’s going to be asking you the real question here, which is:  “So, where did you get that???”
