From the Photo Studio: Meet Photographer Sara

Let me introduce myself.  I’m Sara.  I’m a lover of fashion, art, and candy.   I’m an avid photographer, photographing anything and everything…which brings me to my current gig: resident photographer for Affordable Scarves.

Shooting has changed drastically for me since coming on board at Affordable Scarves.  I now shoot in an environment completely controlled by myself, my subjects no longer move or blink, and while some photographers are concerned with shadows on faces, I’m concerned with scarf fringe.  Oh the fringe!   Between non-stop photography and constant fashion, it’s safe to say I have a pretty fun job.

tribal ikat print spring and summer scarfOne of the best parts of my job is being the first to see new merchandise.  I get to feel, examine, and fall in love with so many great accessories that it might just be detrimental to my bank account.  Today while shooting, I fell in love with the blue/pink Penelope Trekker Pashmina.  This scarf has an exciting and unexpected color combination.  I absolutely love the shades of blue, the dark maroon and then the out of nowhere pop of light pink.  This scarf also has a great geometric pattern that is sure to set a self-proclaimed “yuppie hipster” over the moon.  What I love most about this scarf is that not only is it stimulating, but I can wear it RIGHT NOW.  This scarf is so light weight and comfortable.  It’s just screaming and begging for me to throw it on with a white t-shirt and wear it all summer long.  The fact that it’s just $8.46 really isn’t hurting its case either.

You’ll be hearing a lot from me in the future.  And you should be as excited as I am.

The Uniform Project

Never underestimate the power of the accessory.

While perusing what is probably my favorite site, I found an amazing testament to my sentiment that style is not all about the clothes.

Meet Sheena Matheiken, co-creator of The Uniform Project, a initiative in which Sheena wears the same black dress for 365 days, and styles it a different way each day to raise money for educating Indian children for the organization Akanksha. Yes, the endeavor is charitable and philanthropic and she’s a great person… blah blah blah, but what really stands out to me here is the unprecedented level of fashion innovation she deplays every. single. day. Tights, statement jewelry and millinery and, of course, scarves become essential tools. See some scarftastic examples below.

In the long run this is obviously a massive money saver — in the battle between new scarf versus new dress, new scarf will nearly always win in terms of cost. So though I doubt I’d have the wherewithall to wear the same dress daily, I do plan to take a page from The Uniform Project’s accessories-dressing book. Et tu?

New Merch’ Monday: Leopard Print Wrap

FSN-543BrownAre you an animal print kind of girl (or guy!)? I’d like to say that it is ingrained deep into my DNA. Some people are attracted to all things shiny, but I instead am pulled with a force akin to gravity toward leopard, cheetah, zebra or tiger print pieces.

Case in point: This past Halloween, as I performed the last-minute-costume-scrounge-up dance, I was able to compile an ensemble of head to toe cheetah print — from my shoes to my undergarments to my hair accessories…by far one of my proudest days. (college shmoledge!)FSN-543BlackModel

So when I got an eyefull of the Leopard Print Wrap, it was in my hand before I realized I had even moved in it’s direction. From there I became more smitten with every passing second. The Leopard Print Wrap is weightier and larger than your typical scarf (76″ long and 52″ wide, to be exact) and thus is beyond verstile. Open it up and wear it over your shoulders on a formal occasion, or don it scarf-scarf style to liven up an all black outfit. The material makes this piece ideal for traveling as it won’t wrinkle and is easily large enough to double as a blanket. I would even use this little lovely as a beach coverup!

Well, I know I’m convinced, but what about you? How would you wear it?!
